Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that remains a serious concern in Indonesia, including in the Wara Timur District of Palopo. Environmental factors and maternal health during pregnancy are key determinants of stunting among toddlers. Objective: To identify factors associated with the incidence of stunting among toddlers in Wara Timur District, Palopo City, in 2025. Method: This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The population included all toddlers experiencing stunting in the area, with a total sample of 42 respondents selected through total sampling. Research instruments included a questionnaire and anthropometric measurements. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test with a 95% confidence level. Results: The analysis showed a significant relationship between environmental sanitation (p = 0.015), indoor smoking behavior (p = 0.009), and a history of chronic energy deficiency (CED) during pregnancy (p = 0.004) with stunting among toddlers. Conclusion: Poor environmental sanitation, smoking behavior, and maternal CED history are significantly associated with stunting. Community- and household-based interventions are needed to reduce the prevalence of stunting in the region.
