Abstract

Background: Breakfast habits are one of the important factors that can affect nutritional status, especially
in adolescents. Adopting a regular breakfast habit can lower the risk of obesity. As many as 40% of students
in Indonesia do not eat breakfast before going to school. The nutritional status of adolescents in Indonesia
aged 13 to 15 years shows that 12,1% are in the overweight category while 4,1% are in the obesity category
based on BMI/U. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between breakfast habits and
nutritional status in students at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Minggir. Method: This research is based on
secondary data. The population of this study consists of all students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Minggir
which totals 132 students from grades VII, VIII, and IX. The sampling technique is a total sampling and as
many as 132 students from grades VII to IX. Data was collected by using questionnaires and
anthropometric measurements, such as height and weight. The analysis in this study is the Spearman
correlation test. Results: The results of the analysis showed that the significance test showed a p-value of
0,0801 which was greater than the significance level of 0,05 (0,0801 > 0,05). Spearman’s rho value was
no significant relationship between breakfast habits and nutritional status. Conclusion: Based on the
results of this study, it can be concluded that breakfast habits are not significantly related to the nutritional
status of students at Muhammadiyah 2 Minggir Junior High School. Further research is needed to look for
other factors that can affect the nutritional status of students.
